BT: Give it up, you should be above this nonsense
A few weeks ago, while away on business, I got a call from the pushiest marketing guy in the world. This person was, I hope, not a member of BT staff, but merely someone from a marketing company running a conference on the company's behalf. (Note that I can't be sure because the follow-up email wasn't even signed by a real person).
Basically this guy was determined to pressgang me into signing up for the "BT Business Experience" event, to be held in London in a couple of weeks. Not only that, but he pretty much demanded the name of a colleague, so he could send us both free tickets to this "event".
Apparently it would be fantastic for me to go, because I'd get to meet loads of account managers. (Note to any account managers out there: no offence guys, but this didn't really arouse me greatly). When I asked whether that included people who knew all about global networking and could discuss inter-continental data links, the answer was "yes", but frankly I wasn't convinced.
BT, what the hell do you think you're playing at? You phone a company that spends serious money on a global, diversely-routed WAN connecting eleven sites in four continents, and expect them to send their IT guys to some grunt conference in London so that some junior muppets can do a sales pitch.
Forgive me if I don't take you seriously.
Oh, and if you're wondering why I'm writing about this now? Simple: they seem to be running another one, so I got another pushy phone call the other day; I've told them to get stuffed.
